Sandhill Crane, Fairbanks, Alaska #3113

Aug 28, 2019

On my road trip up the Dalton Highway to the Brooks Range last weekend, I stopped for a day in Fairbanks to photograph the sandhill cranes in Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge during Crane Fest. The festival runs from August 23 through August 25. The 2,200 acre refuge hosts many kinds of ducks, Canada geese, and the ever-popular sandhill cranes on their spring and fall migrations between their summer nesting sites in the Arctic and the wintering grounds in the lower 48. Creamer’s Field is one of the best places in the world to enjoy these wonderfully entertaining birds. Enjoy – Camera: Nikon D850, Lens: Nikkor 80-400mm, Handheld ©Mark Kelley
