Parakeet Auklet, St Paul – Pribilof Islands, Alaska #3013

Jul 5, 2017

A Parakeet Auklet hangs out on the seaside cliffs of St. Paul in the Pribilof Islands. The Pribilofs are a small group of islands hidden in the Bering Sea encompassing some 77 square miles. The three hour flight in a small double prop plane from Anchorage covers 770 miles. The Pribilofs are famous for their large populations of northern fur seals and cliffs full of nesting marine birds, including many exotic species. The Parakeet Auklet is found commonly in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Island, and the Alaska Peninsula. While on land these small seabirds walk mostly on their legs and not their toes.
