Northern Lights-Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, AK #3041

Rainbow Aurora over Glacier Lit by Full Moon

During a northern lights’ shoot in Alaska, I usually spend the night in my car at a good overlook, and step outside to shoot if and when the lights appear. For this particular photo shoot in early November I spent two nights outside of my car and on the beach along Mendenhall Lake in my hometown of Juneau, with temperatures hovering around the mid-teens. Dressed in full arctic gear I walked up and down the beach, flapping my arms trying to stay warm, with my camera on a tripod and ready to shoot at a moment’s notice. During those long eight hours on the beach I got just fifteen minutes of actual shooting time…and what a great fifteen minutes! This was a very special shoot and instead of immediately sharing what I shot, I thought I would save the image as my holiday gift for my friends and followers. I am going to take a week break from posting so please look for the next post on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
