Northern Lights, Arctic, Alaska #3104

May 8, 2019

This will be the last northern lights image that I will post for a while. I say this because starting at the end of May the Alaska night sky is too bright for the lights to shine through. The latest I have every taken a photo of the aurora is May 21 to be exact. Summer solstice is a little over a month away and the night sky will be aurora free for over two months. The earliest I have seen the northern lights return is in mid-August. I shot this image standing on the frozen Middle Fork of the Koyukuk River at the end of March along the Dalton Highway. Enjoy!
