Mt. Juneau Ridge Hike, Juneau, Alaska #3361

Sep 23, 2020

The Mount Juneau Ridge hike is one of my favorite hikes. There are dozens of great hiking trails in Juneau, but the Mount Juneau Ridge is really very special. I only hike it on the most perfect days, sunny with light winds which is a rare combination. The Mount Juneau hike is a very strenuous hike, with some 4,000 feet of total vertical gain and a roundtrip length of approximately 12 miles. My step counter on my iPhone went into overdrive and registered over 32,800 steps in the 10.5-hour day. Once you are on top of the ridge there is no reason to rush. The views are stunning, and I especially love my lunch break followed up by an open-air mountain nap on a soft bed of heather. Last week the over-the-top summer green tundra had turned into a menagerie of fall colors: reds, yellow, gold, and brown. Juneau was so lucky to have this day so late in the fall which is usually is start of our storm season.
