Moon-Lit Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska #3126

Nov 26, 2019

I have always dreamed of lighting up the Mendenhall Glacier for a night shot. Of course, the only way I could figure out how to do this was to wait for a clear Juneau night sky along with a full moon. At the end of November, two years ago, I was out on a frozen Mendenhall Lake, waiting in anticipation. Around eleven o’clock the full moon lit the top of the glacier and to my amazement an aurora arched over the entire scene. The moment lasted for only about ten minutes. I was stunned and so blessed to have witnessed nature at its finest. This image illustrates the month of December and is the cover of my 2020 Juneau Calendar. I will be at the Juneau Alaska Public Market, November 29-December 1, to personally sign your calendars, and will bring along my scarves and note cards. Please come by and say hello.
