Mom and Pup Harbor Seals, Tracy Arm, Juneau, Alaska #3385

Dec 8, 2025

One of my favorite places to photograph wild Alaska is Tracy Arm Fjord. My first shoot in Tracy Arm happened in 1979 when I had just moved to Juneau to become the first photographer at the Juneau Empire newspaper. I took a day boat and spent most of the day in the fjord. I was amazed and over the top in disbelief at its beauty. I fell in love with the place and have gone back at least three times a season for the last fifty years, totaling some 150 trips. This image is of a mother harbor seal nose-nuzzling with her pup on the flows in front of Sawyer Glacier in Tracy Arm. This image is the June image in my Juneau 2026 calendar. The calendar is available for purchase in Juneau-area stores and at markkelley.com.  Have a wonderful holiday season. Mark (Camera…Nikon Body 850: Lens 24-70-400mm)
