Mendenhall Glacier and Lake, Juneau, Alaska #3388

Feb 16, 2021

About two weeks ago a few intrepid glacier explorers found a network of ice caves along the north side of the Mendenhall Glacier. Ever since then there has been a constant daily line of hundreds of Juneauites marching out to check out the caves. Two Sundays ago, I walked out to the caves starting around 2:00pm. The round trip lasted a little over two hours, and along the way I counted over 400 people that passed me either coming or going. I took this image of the line-up on Valentine’s Day. The line was never ending starting in the early morning and lasting well into the sunset.
