Killer Whale Breach, Southeast Alaska #3409

Aug 6, 2021

A killer whale breaches in Icy Strait. I have spent a lot of time in Icy Strait photographing whales. This particular morning was so very special because of the flat calm waters and wonderful soft blue pastel color of the water. I, along with Ralph Lee Hopkins, Lindblad Expeditions Director of Photography, and Flip Nicklin, National Geographic Photographer and Whale Trust co-founder, volunteered for two four-day photo safaris out of Juneau as fundraisers for Whale Trust Maui. The Whale Trust Maui is a nonprofit organization dedicated to scientific research and public awareness of whales and their environment. This is one of my favorite images of those eight days.
