Juneau Morning, Alaska #3439

Oct 31, 2022

It is a rare day in Juneau’s typical weather cycle to have heavy snowfall followed by clear skies the next morning. But, forecasters were predicting just such a rare event. I had been waiting for years to shoot just this moment at a secret predetermined spot. It meant getting up at 5am, driving 16-miles into downtown Douglas, and trudging up maybe 1,000 feet on a mountain side in boot-deep snow with a heavy pack of cameras and a tripod. I had to get up to my location before sunrise to catch the pre-dawn light greeting the new day. This image illustrates the cover and the month of January in the 2023 Juneau Calendar. Both the Alaska and Juneau 2023 calendars have strong covers, but it looks like this cover is the big favorite! Calendars can be purchased in your favorite local Juneau store or at markkelley.com. Thank you for visiting and for the gift of your time. Enjoy – Camera: #Nikon #D850, Lens: # Nikkor 24–70mm, Digital Capture, ©Mark Kelley
