A baby humpback whale breaches in the whale waters around Juneau, Alaska, with the Eagle Glacier and the surrounding Coast Mountains in the background. I, along with Ralph Lee Hopkins, Lindblad Expeditions Director of Photography, and Flip Nicklin, National Geographic Photographer and Whale Trust co-founder, volunteered for two four-day photo safaris out of Juneau as a fundraiser for Whale Trust Maui. The Whale Trust Maui is a nonprofit organization dedicated to scientific research and public awareness of whales and their environment. This is one of my favorite images of those eight days.
