Harbor Mountain, Sitka, Alaska – Image 2744

In October when most of Alaska is starting to freeze up, Southeast Alaska is still relatively warm by comparison. Again it rains a lot in the fall, but on the few good days, it is a good idea to hike into the mountains. This photo was taken on top of Harbor Mountain in Sitka looking into the middle of the island. I had been waiting up on top for the sunset and the approaching evening hoping to photograph northern lights from this vantage point. While watching the setting sun, I turned around 180 degrees to see what is happening behind me. To my amazement what had been a fog free scene minutes ago was filling up with fog. As this fog filled up the bowl at the base of this mountain, it started over flowing and streaming down the mountainside like a stream of water. I ditched the sunset and shot this amazing scene. The image illustrates the month of April in my 2012 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.
