Grizzly Bear, Gates of the Arctic NP, Alaska #3120

Oct 23, 2019

A grizzly walks down the Noatak River in front of the rugged Brooks Range Mountains on a beautiful autumn evening in Gates of the Arctic National Park. The light in the image is the light that photographers dream of. Just minutes after taking this photo the light completely disappeared from the bear and the mountains. Photo tip of the day: Photos only really work well in a very narrow moment of time. For this picture to be successful the bear had to be 100 percent surrounded by water. I could only shoot this image once the bear’s back separated from the stream bank and before his legs ran into the jetty of rocks he was walking toward. I was sweating bullets waiting for everything to align before the light disappeared. I made it, but just barely! This image illustrates the month of August in my 2020 Alaska Calendar. Thank you for visiting and enjoy. Camera: Nikon D810, Lens: Nikkor 24-70mm, Digital Capture, Polarized, Handheld ©MarkKelley
