Giraffe, Kruger National Park, South Africa – Image 2660

My website usually only shows images of Alaska. But for next couple of months, I plan to show images of Africa that I took last October while visiting South Africa and Namibia. Giraffes have to one of my favorite animals from all of the way-too-cool animals found in Kruger National Park (KNP). When visiting KNP, everyone is restricted to staying in their vehicle. KNP is a driving park with 23 rest camps spread over a Massachusetts-sized land mass crisscrossed by over 3,000 kilometers of roads ranging from paved to very rough gravel. The 23 rest camps are where are all park visitors stay while in the park. These camps are seft-contained small villages with every possible combination of accommodations from tent sites all the way to four-bedroom houses. The camps come with most necessary amenities like grocery stores, restaurants, and swimming pools and are entirely fenced to keep the visitors in and the animals out. Everyone has to be in camp by 6pm and the gates are not opened again until 5:30am. The animals have the park to themselves for 11 plus hours. Most of my photos from KNR are taken from my vehicle.
