Eaglecrest Ski Area, Juneau, Alaska…Image #2900

Dec 3, 2014

This is my son, Owen, performing as my model in a ski shot. I am lucky to have two sons (Gabe and Owen) and their many friends who are exceptional skiers and snowboarders. I get to use them as models and ask them to do skiing moves that seem impossible. Owen had to work his way through a frozen forest of ice rimmed spruce trees to get to this drop. I actually wanted him to simply ski through this rather bumpy, narrow, and steep line. I would only get one chance for the shot because the fresh snow would have looked skied out on the second shot. He asked me if he could jump the line. I wondered to myself how he could actually do that, but of course told him “yes, by all means.” This image is now one of my favorite ski images and it illustrates the month of January in my 2015 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Thank you for visiting. Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: Nikkor 70-120mm f/2.8,  Digital Capture – Copyright Mark Kelley
