Eagle River and Chilkat Mountains, Juneau, Alaska #3043

Jan 25, 2018

This past Monday and Tuesday were beautiful days in Juneau. I shot the sunsets both evenings between 3:45 and 4:20 in the afternoon as in winter the sun sets early in the far north. Eagle River is one of my go-to spots to shoot sunsets this time of year. What makes this image work, besides the amazing expanse of mountains, is that the photo was taken at high tide with Eagle River filling its banks. The sunset light reflecting off the river graphically ties this photo together. Without the high tide the river would be unnoticeable and there would have been nothing anchoring the image at the bottom. It is hard to get the timing right in my world of ever-changing tides and seasonal sunsets. Thank you for visiting -Camera: Nikon D810, Lens: Nikkor 24-70mm, Digital Capture, hand held
