Coastal Brown Bear, Glacier Bay National Park, AK #3129

Dec 4, 2019

A coastal brown bear takes a break from feeding in the low-tide zone in Glacier Bay National Park. Salmon season is short in Glacier Bay and most of the park’s coastal brown bears make a living turning over rocks and eating the little critters they can find under the rocks. Bears are wary of humans approaching from land but seem less fearful of a water approach. I love cruising close to the shore in the evening and morning light watching for bears. This image illustrates the month of September in my 2020 Juneau Calendar.
