Calving Glacier, Hubbard Glacier, Wrangell-St.Elias National Park, Alaska – Image 2828

Oct 1, 2013

The Hubbard glacier is the longest glacier in Alaska (over 70 miles long) and one of the most active. It is the go-to-spot to get images of a calving glacier. I spend four hours in front of the glacier last May, and had dozens of in-your-face ice events. It is hard to gain perspective but this glacier face is about 200 feet high (70 meters) and six miles long. It is a thrilling place to be. The half day spent in front of the glacier had to be one of my better days spent in Alaska in the past 35-plus years. Additionally, I will be the photo leader on a week-long trip (August 30-September 6, 2013) through Southeast Alaska on board the 50-foot custom trawler “Delphinus” captained by my good friend, Ronn Patterson. The trip starts in Wrangell and ends up in Ketchikan. The trip will visit Anan Creek and travel through Misty Fjords. For more information contact Ronn at trips@dolphincharters.com or check out their website at www.dolphincharters.com. This image appears in my 2014 Southeast Alaska Calendar now celebrating its 20th year of publication. Thank you for visiting.
