Brown Bear, Pack Creek, Admiralty Island, Alaska…Image # 2888

Sep 10, 2014

I call this image my “Polite Bear”.  I was photographing brown bears from the sand spit overlooking Pack Creek. This four year old bear walked up, sat down about 15 feet (5 meters) away, folded its paws, stared at us, laid down, and started rolling around in the grass.  How cool was that!  I love Pack Creek, but a photographer really has to be really, really, really patience.  In all practicality, during a ten hour stay at the spit, I plan or hope for 15 to 30 minutes of good shooting.  It is a really long wait, but when it is good it is very, very good.  Sometimes you can get totally skunked (see image 2885 posted on August 20). This photo is in my new children’s book “Once Upon Alaska” and illustrates the month of September in my 2015 Juneau Alaska Calendar.  Thank you for visiting markkelley.com – Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8, Digital Capture
