Brown Bear, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska #3024

Sep 6, 2017

The native peoples from Southeast Alaska have a saying that roughly goes like this:”When the tide is out the table is set.” This juvenile brown bear understands the saying well. Brown bears in Glacier Bay spend their time feeding at low tide turning over rocks and slurping up any creatures uncovered. Brown bear cubs stay with their mother for two to three seasons. I photographed this newly independent and scrawny bear this summer while on the photo expedition I lead every summer onboard Ronn Paterson’s M/V “Delphinus”. If you would like to see a large adult bear that this teenager should grow into check out Image #3024 posted August 8.
