I have made 13 pilgrimages to photograph the bears at Anan Creek, which is about an hour-long boat ride from Wrangell, Alaska. My visits have ranged from a single afternoon to three- to four-day overnight stays while renting the Anan Creek cabin located about a mile-from the viewing deck. The Anan Creek drainage supports a large bear population: approximately 30 to 60 black bears and up to 20 coastal brown bears. In 2022 I won the National Wildlife Magazine photo contest for best portfolio, featuring the bears at Anan Creek.
Anan Creek is the September photo in my 2025 Alaska Calendar which is now available online at markkelley.com and in your Juneau stores. I will be at the Public Market signing calendars Nov 29-through December 1. Thank you for visiting and for the gift of your time, enjoy! Camera Nikon D850, Lens 80-400mm, Digital Capture, ©Mark Kelley
