Big Goat Lake, Misty Fjords National Monument, Alaska – Image 2622

Oct 1, 2013

I photographed this image in early June while on assignment for my book on Alaska. Located just outside Ketchikan in southern Southeast Alaska, Misty Fjords is a huge land mass cut up by deep glacier-carved fjords and dotted with many high alpine lakes. The outlet for this lake is a very tall waterfall. I photographed this image from the open window on the front passenger side of a Beaver float plane. Althought not as convenient as a helicopter, the plane costs about 1/3 of what a helicopter costs. This photo illustrates the month of September in my 2010 Southeast Alaska calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Nikon F5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor, exposure setting unknown, polarized, Fuji Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley
