Bald Eagles, Juneau, Alaska #3440

Nov 24, 2022

A pile of bald eagles seek shelter from a raging storm in a large stand of Sitka spruce trees across the road from Western Auto in the Lemon Creek area of Juneau. For over 40 years I have been watching the eagles use these trees. As Lemon Creek experienced growing commercial development, I feared some entity would buy this area and cut the trees down. The good news is that in 2019 the Southeast Alaska Land Trust (SEAL Trust), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, bought the eagles’ storm shelter and plans to conserve the area for eternity. SEAL Trust’s mission is to conserve land and water, nurture relationships between people and place, and connect conservation to community now and for future generations. Thank you, SEAL Trust. Please think of SEAL Trust for your charitable donations. This image illustrates the month of February in the 2023 Juneau Calendar.
