Bald Eagle, Tracy Arm, Alaska #3078

Oct 17, 2018

In springtime one of the best places in Alaska to photograph bald eagles on icebergs is Tracy Arm, and especially South Sawyer Glacier. April and May are lean times for eagles. The salmon have not returned to the streams and eagles are hungry. Eagles hang out on the icebergs to get elevation to watch for edible things in the water, waiting for whatever comes their way. Once the salmon start running, the eagles will leave Tracy Arm for Alaska’s many salmon streams. This photo illustrates May in my 2019 Alaska Calendar.
