Bald Eagle, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska #3421

Nov 2, 2021

I took this photo of a bald eagle on an iceberg across from Margerie Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska. It is cool to have an eagle on a glacier but for me the success of this photo is all about the color. I love the cool blue color of the iceberg contrasting with the bright hot colors reflecting in the water. The eagle and iceberg were in shadow because the sun was not high enough to light them. But, the sun was high enough to have peeked over the mountain ridge behind me. The sun lit up the forested wall across the bay casting this unexpected brilliant splash of color across the water. This image illustrates the month of March in my 2022 Alaska Calendar. Thank you for visiting and for the gift of your time.
