Backpacking, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2825

Oct 1, 2013

Last week Lynn Schooler and myself presented a slide/lecture show to an standing room only crowd at the University of Alaska Southeast Alaska lecture hall on what we refer to as the lost coast. I had hiked this area twice, once in 1998 while shooting film for a book on Glacier Bay National Park, and again in 2011 while shooting digital images on a family trip. I had to dig through my slides to round out the show and came across this image that I had long ago forgotten about. Backpacking the beaches of Glacier Bay can be stunning especially with Mt Fairweather as the backdrop. Fairweather stands almost 15,000ft high and sits just 30 miles back from the crashing waves of the coast. Additionally, I will be the photo leader on a week-long trip (August 30-September 6, 2013) through Southeast Alaska on board the 50-foot custom trawler “Delphinus” captained by my good friend, Ronn Patterson. The trip starts in Wrangell and ends up in Ketchikan. The trip will visit Anan Creek and travel through Misty Fjords. For more information contact Ronn at trips@dolphincharters.com or check out their website at www.dolphincharters.com. Thank you for visiting.
