Aurora Borealis & Shooting Star, Brooks Range, AK #2956

Mar 30, 2016

Last week I spent seven days in a cabin in Wiseman along the Dalton Highway (the Haul Road) in the Arctic. My friend and fellow photographer, Murray Cohen planned this trip a while back in order to shoot the northern lights up north. The trip had all the great ingredients for a wonderful photo: the Brooks Range as a backdrop, full moon nights, dark skies clear of light pollution, and great potential for northern lights viewing. Our recipe just had to work. And then add the surprise ingredient of a shooting star and you get this photo that seems unbelievable, even to me.  But, I was there and know it is real. I cannot believe my luck and timing.  I thank the heavens for this gift. Thank you for visiting. – Camera: Nikon D800, Lens: Nikkor 14-24mm F/2.8, digital capture, 13 second exposure, F/2.8, on tripod – ©Mark Kelley
