Aurora Borealis, Juneau, Alaska-Image #2952

Feb 18, 2016

Last night (2-17-2016) I shot this photo of the Aurora Borealis over the mountains surrounding the valley and the Mendenhall Glacier from the North Douglas boat ramp. Although I spent most of the night and early morning hours looking for northern lights, I only witnessed one powerful display sometime between 11:30pm-12:30am. The northern lights created a beautiful green arch, bridging the valley and reflecting gently in the still water. The long night of waiting and lost night of sleep was well worth it. I think I might include this image in my show for the Mendenhall Glacier Fireside Lecture Series tomorrow, Friday February 19, at 6:30pm and again at 8pm. The title of the show is “Thinking Photos”.  Everyone is invited and I hope to see you there. Thank you for visiting.
