Auke Lake, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2692

Oct 1, 2013

The first snow fall happens in Juneau sometime in late October or early November. I love photographing Auke Lake. What makes this photo work for me is the mirror reflection of the house lights and snow capped mountains. I shot this photo in early November. After shooting this image, I returned the next evening to work on the shot some more. Showing up 24 hours later, the lake had frozen and the mirror reflection was gone. I waited for years (over 15) for the same set of circumstances to occur and was able to work on another set images just last year. I often wait for years and years and years for the right set of circumstances to photograph my pre-visualized concepts. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. I will be leading a small boat photo cruise in Glacier Bay National Park next year with Dolphin Charters (www.dolphincharters.com), July 6-12, 2011. Come join me for a week cruise in the bay exploring Alaska. This photo illustrates the month of January in my Southeast Alaska 2011 calendar. © Mark Kelley
