Auke Bay Winter Docks, Alaska – Image 2586

I photographed this scene after a week of below-zero temperatures. The water was over 50 degrees warmer than the air, creating the steam rising from the harbor while the extreme tidal action prevented the harbor from freezing over. The sunrise lit the steam, giving the scene its rich warm color.
