Amalga Harbor, Juneau, Alaska #3040

Dec 13, 2017

Last year I received the really fun news that I got BING’ed on Christmas eve! The Microsoft search engine, BING, used this image for a day on their homepage. BING is the second largest search engine in the US with a more than 20% share of the US market and a 7% share of the worldwide market. BING is available in over forty languages and features a uniquely different front page photograph every day. The fun part is that this image has a great story. The Kegler family here in Juneau purchased this Christmas tree from the Alaska state surplus store for their floating dock in Amalga Harbor. It is believed the tree came from the Alaska governor’s mansion. The Kegler’s used a 300-foot under-water electrical cable to light the tree up. I thought if this image was good enough for BING I should definitely use it in one of my Mark Kelley calendars. The image illustrates the month of December in my 2018 Juneau Calendar and is also available as a note card. Enjoy and thanks for visiting – Camera: Nikon D800, Lens: Nikkor 24-120mm, Digital Capture, Tripod ©Mark Kelley
