Alaska’s Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness, Book Cover – Image 2776

Last fall, I decided to update my Tracy Arm book that I published in 2004. A lot has changed in Tracy Arm in the last seven years, and the book needed a revision. I added 20 pages, gave it a new name, a new cover and kept the same price. When the book first was published almost all of the boats cruised up Tracy Arm exclusively. But starting shortly after the book’s publication, the two Sawyer Glaciers started a very rapid retreat. I once heard it referred to as “glacier collapse”. Because of this “collapse”, the two arms in front of the Sawyer Glaciers got choked with ice and made approaching the glacier faces an iffy proposition. The boat tours started looking for another place to show their passengers a glacier. The other and lesser know Arm in the wilderness is Endicott Arm ending at the Dawes Glacier. Although also retreating, the Dawes Glacier is more accessible. Taking this into consideration, the revised book has a chapter and plenty of images on the Dawes Glacier, Endicott Arm and Fords Terror. The cover photo is of ice calving off the Dawes Glacier shot last August while passengers from one of the “Safari” cruises watch. Thanks for visiting.
