Alaska Goes to Africa:Impala, Kruger National Park, South Africa – Image 2666

Oct 1, 2013

My website usually only shows images of Alaska. But for next couple of months, I plan to show images that I took last October while visiting South Africa and Namibia. Impala were the most common animals in Kruger National Park and seemed like we saw thousands of these critters everyday. Impala can jump nine feet high and leap over 30 feet in length. They are incredibly quick and fast reaching speeds of over 50 miles per hour in a dead run. We were in Kruger in October which is the end of the dry season with the rains coming in November and December. I was impressed with just how dry and parched the world was and in spite of dryness these animals could thrive. Almost all of the vegetation was brown but every once in awhile we would come across a green bush lost in a sea of brown parchness. We always found animals by these oasis’s and photographically I like the contrast. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.
