Alaska Goes to Africa:Elephants, Kruger National Park, South Africa – Image 2664

Oct 1, 2013

My website usually only shows images of Alaska. But for next couple of months, I plan to show images of Africa that I took last October while visiting South Africa and Namibia. What’s not to love about elephants? Elephants are Africa’s quintessential wildlife species. Kruger Park has them everywhere with a estimated population of over 11,000. My wife and I saw elephants every day we were in the Park for our two-week stay. South Africa in 1920 had only 120 individuals and through conservation mostly in their National Parks the number have grown to over 20,000 elephants in the past 90 years. Elephants are the world’s largest land mammal weighing in at around 7 tons and reaching heights of 10 feet at the shoulder. They have the potential of living up to 70 years. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon D300, Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm, digital capture©Mark Kelley
