Alaska Goes to Africa: Kudu, Kruger National Park, South Africa – Image 2667

Oct 1, 2013

My website usually only shows images of Alaska. But for next couple of months, I plan to show images that I took last October while visiting South Africa and Namibia. Male kudus have the most impressive set of horns of any of any animal we saw in Africa. A stylized version of kudu horns are the logo emblem for the South Africa National Park system. Their horns can grow up to 72 inches in length and make 2 1/2 graceful twists from base to tip. Kudus are browsers eating mostly leaves and fresh shoots. Here, a kudu eats the first flowers of the spring season from a bare branch. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon D300, Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm, digital capture© Mark Kelley
