Alaska Goes to Africa: Giraffes, Kruger National Park, South Africa – Image 2665

Oct 1, 2013

My website usually only shows images of Alaska. But for next couple of months, I plan to show images of Africa that I took last October while visiting South Africa and Namibia. Again, giraffes are my favorite African animal. I took this image while staying at the Bushman’s Wildness Trail camp. The wilderness trail system in Kruger allows visitors the opportunity to get off the road and stay in remote camps that accommodate only 8 guests, two park rangers and one cook. We stayed in a small fenced compound right next to a water hole. I was able to shoot this image from the bench in the compound overlooking the waterhole. The really wonderful aspect about these wilderness trail camps is that you get out of the compound twice per day for walks in the park with the animals for up to five hours with the camp’s two armed rangers as guides. It was the highlight of our stay in Kruger Park. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon D300, Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm, digital capture© Mark Kelley
