Last week I spent a day in Tracy Arm onboard the Captain Cook. I love going to Tracy Arm in the early summer because the harbor seal pupping season starts in late May and goes into early July. There are literally hundreds of harbor seals giving birth on icebergs in the bay in front of the South Sawyer Glacier. Have you ever wondered what a pregnant seal looks like? Check out the distended lower belly on the light-colored harbor seal front and center on the iceberg. Not as obvious, but the neighbor seal on the same iceberg is also pregnant. I saw a baby seal with umbilical cord still attached, and an iceberg stained red from a recent birth.
