Brown Bear, Pack Creek, Admiralty, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2840

Oct 1, 2013 | 0 comments

A brown bear at Pack Creek on Admiralty Island walks through a field of flowering yarrow. The best time to visit the bears at Pack Creek is the last week of July through mid-August. There are always bears in the area, but they gather en masse around the creek when the salmon starting running. Admiralty Island referred to by the local Tlingit Indains as “Kootznoowoo” means “Fortress of the Bears.” This island has the highest density of bears in the world with approximately one bear per square mile. There are no black bears on Admiralty Island. The image illustrates the month of July in my Juneau 2014 Calendar. Thanks for visiting.
