Bald Eagles, Anan Creen, Alaska – Image 2829

Oct 1, 2013 | 0 comments

Bald eagles get their distinctive white head and white tail feathers at adulthood around age five. Here an adult eagle sits on a branch with a juvenile eagle. I have never had the opportunity to photograph the two age groups together and have not seen any other images of the age pairings together. There was more difference than I had expected or heard of. Besides the tail and head feathers, the beak on the juvenile is black not yellow and the juvenile eyes are black and not yellow like the adult bird. I like this image for the information it gives me. Additionally, I will be the photo leader on a week-long trip (August 30-September 6, 2013) through Southeast Alaska on board the 50-foot custom trawler “Delphinus” captained by my good friend, Ronn Patterson. The trip starts in Wrangell and ends up in Ketchikan. The trip will visit Anan Creek and travel through Misty Fjords. For more information contact Ronn at trips@dolphincharters.com or check out their website at www.dolphincharters.com. This image appears in my 2014 Southeast Alaska Calendar now celebrating its 20th year of publication. Thank you for visiting.
