Coastal Brown Bear, Bald Eagle, Anan Creek, Alaska – Image 2764

I am continuing with bear photos for the next four weeks. On March 14, I will being doing an Alaska Wildlife Alliance “Wildlife Wednesday” presentation with Jay and Jayleen Beedle starting at 7pm in the UAS Egan Lecture Hall. I will be showing bear images. Here, a coastal brown bear fishes Anan Creek surrounded by eagles waiting for salmon scraps left behind by the bear’s foraging. What makes Anan Wildlife Observatory so special is the opportunity for visitors to see coastal brown bears and black bears at the same place at the same time. I know no other wildlife viewing area that enjoys this combination of species. Coastal brown bears are the dominant species, and black bears always demur to the larger more powerful coastal brown bears. Watching the two-bear, two-step avoidance dance is a delight. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: D700, Lens: Nikkor 500 mm F/4, ISO 1000, On tripod© Mark Kelley
