Bull Caribou, Denali National Park, Alaska #3051

Apr 4, 2018

For the past several years a bull caribou has been consistently hanging out around the northern end of Wonder Lake in Denali National Park. I was working my way up a small hill to get an advantage point overlooking the lake. The brush and clumps of small spruce trees can be very thick in this area. I stopped to turn around to check out my positioning when out of the spruce trees walked this bull caribou. Both very surprised, we just stood there staring at each other. After the initial shock the bull slowly meandered by and I was able to shoot about ten frames. The whole encounter probably lasted less than five minutes.
