“Fairweather Sunset” Fairweather Mountains, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2705

Oct 1, 2013

One of my favorite views of the Fairweather Range in Glacier Bay National Park is from Icy Strait. This photo was actually taken from my dear friends, Paul and Tammi’s front deck. They own the Gull Cove Lodge in Gull Cove at the top of Idaho Inlet (right off Icy Strait). They have to be the luckiest people in the world to have this view. Mt. Fairweather is the park’s most famous peak with a standing height of 15,320 feet. It taller than any other mountain in the lower 48, but in Alaska it is only ranks 19th among Alaska’s towering peaks. In Europe, only Mount Blanc in France is taller–and just by 471 feet. This image is featured on page 42 in my photo book on the park: “Glacier Bay National Park: Alaska.” Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Once again as a reminder, I will be leading a small boat photo cruise in Glacier Bay National Park next year with Dolphin Charters (www.dolphincharters.com), July 6-12, 2011. Come join me for a week-long cruise in the bay exploring Alaska. Have a great new year.Camera body: Nikon f5, Lens: Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8, Film: Velvia, ASA 100, digital scan© Mark Kelley
