Auke Bay Harbor Juneau, Alaska – Image 2694

Oct 1, 2013

November usually brings the first heavy snows of the winter. During one extreme winter I can remember six feet of snow around my house in downtown Juneau by the end of November. I think the earliest the local ski area opened was around November 16th. Auke Bay is a beautiful setting for a harbor, and Mt. McGinnis is the exclamation point to this impressive mountain environment. I like shooting my winter shots during the morning’s first light because of the strong rich color of the light and there usually a fog hanging around that just adds an additional visual element. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. I will be leading a small boat photo cruise in Glacier Bay National Park next year with Dolphin Charters (www.dolphincharters.com), July 6-12, 2011. Come join me for a week cruise in the bay exploring Alaska. This photo illustrates the month of November in my Juneau Alaska 2011 calendar.
