Bald Eagle, Tracy Arm, Alaska #3029

Oct 11, 2017

Many of you know that Tracy Arm is one of my favorite places in Southeast Alaska. I go every spring knowing that eagles are hanging out on icebergs, scavenging for anything they can find while waiting for the return of salmon in summer. Springtime is still a lean time of the year for our eagle population. What makes this photo work is the timing or “decisive moment”. The image catches the eagle at the precise moment before take-off. Its golden claws contrast beautifully with the blue ice. I got lucky. This photo illustrates the month of September in my 2018 Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo – Camera: Nikon D800, Lens: Nikkor 80-400mm, Digital Capture, hand held
