Mendenhall River, Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2644

Oct 1, 2013

Today, Eaglecrest Ski Area is reporting 50 inches of snow at the top of the mountain. The last three winters in Juneau have been record setting snowfalls, and I could not be happier. The more snow the better life gets. On one really snowy day, I went out to photograph the local lone black wolf known as “Romeo” who hangs out on the frozen Mendenhall Glacier Lake during the winter. On my way out to the lake, I came across a section of the unfrozen Mendenhall River banked by pillows of snow. I knew I had a really good photo opportunity, and got this photo, but never did see the wolf. Usually when I go to take pictures, I have a specific subject in mind. But more often then not what happens is I end up on a totally different tack shooting something that I had not expected. This photo illustrates the month of February in my Juneau 2010 calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.Camera body: Nikon D300, Lens: Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8, Polarized, Digital Capture, ISO 200-Mark Kelley
