Sea Lions, North Pass, Alaska – Image 2570

A big bull sea lion rubs noses with a small female in his harem on the rock in North Pass. I shot this photo from a small boat with my 500mm. It is tricky using a really long lens on a small rocking boat. The only option was to shoot at high speeds and brace the lens on lots of coats and life jackets. This image illustrates the month of April in my Southeast Alaska 2009 Calendar and is on page 92 in my book: “Alaska: A Photographic Excursion” Nikon F5, Lens: 500mm f/4 Nikkor , Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley
