Saxman Totem Park, Ketchikan, Alaska – Image 2568

I have photographed Saxman many times and was never very happy with the results. I was up early one morning and went to Saxman out of boredom. I had always thought the early morning light rising behind Saxman would be too harsh. Boy was I wrong. The early morning light was fantastic, giving the scene more depth and separation. The warmth of the morning light improved the color. This image illustrates the month of August in my Southeast Alaska 2009 Calendar and is on page 34 of the Alaska: A Photographic Excursion book. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 80-200mm f/2.8, Film: 35mm Velvia slide film.-Mark Kelley
