Dog Camp on the Juneau Icefield, Alaska – Image 2476

One of the favorite tours by the cruise ships passengers in Juneau is the trip up to the Icefield by helicopter to go dog sledding in the middle of the summer. Three helicopter companies in Juneau offer this excursion. This shot is of the Temsco Helicopter’s dog base on the upper reaches of the Mendenhall Glacier. This camp houses 270 dogs along with mushers and handlers that live the summer up on the ice. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of 42 different images.
