Eskimo Blanket Toss, University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Alaska – Image 2343

I shot this photo in my college days at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 1977. It is still one of my favorites and was my first cover for a major magazine, Alaska Magazine, in 1978. I was a junior in college. I shot from the roof of a 6-story building on campus. I waited for the moment when the jumper was completely backgrounded in the walrus skin trampoline. The blanket toss is an Eskimo game of celebration. This photo illustrates page 103: the week of 12-5 to 12-11-04 in my weekly Engagement Calendar for 2004.
