Humpback Whale, North Pass, Juneau, AK #3374

Nov 22, 2025

As a photographer, I am always waiting and watching — sometimes for many years — for images that include all the elements that make Alaska so amazing. Those include snow-capped mountains, flowing glaciers, and wildlife all wrapped together in the majestic world of the Tongass National Forest, the world’s largest intact temperate rainforest. I am so happy to have shot this image of a juvenile humpback whale jumping for joy as my calendar cover. I shot this photo in North Pass, about a 20-minute skiff ride from Auke Bay in Juneau, Alaska. This image is featured on the cover of my Juneau 2026 calendar. The calendar is available for purchase in Juneau-area stores and online at markkelley.com. This year marks my 37th year at the Juneau Public Market. I look forward to seeing everyone. The market opens Friday, November 28, and runs through Sunday, November 30. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season. Mark (Camera…Nikon Body 850: Lens 24-70mm)
